Welcome to our Folding@Home team site. It is hoped that these pages will serve not only to inform but also to assist you.
What is Folding@Home? From the Folding@Home Wikipedia entry:FAH is the world's largest distributed supercomputer. It is made up of hundreds of thousands of personal home computers, servers, and video GPUs, each performing calculations small enough for them to handle quickly, then sending the results of those calclulations back to the FAH servers to compile for the scientists working on each project. FAH is a project focusing on the research of diseases. The word "folding" comes from the way human protein folds in the cells in your body. Proteins are essential to us for staying healthy, and they assemble themselves to drive many bodily functions by folding. But, when they misfold, a person's health can be comprimised. How is Folding@Home Battling COVID-19 (Coronavirus)? FAH has created a great page describing what Folding@Home is doing and how you can help in this active fight against COVID-19. There is also a great video which provides a very basic overview of how this all works and why.How Can I Help to Fight COVID-19? The easiest way for most people to help in this battle is simply to allow your computer's CPU/GPU to make calculations for FAH. The process for getting started is very simple:
We also need people to spread the word about this computational battle. Share the link to this page to anyone you believe might want or need to jump into such a fight. It really does feel amazing to actively participate in the battle against COVID-19, instead of just fearing it for countless months. Every little calculation counts. It truly is more like a lottery. Who will find the important weak spot in this virus - the guy with 100 CPUs? the Grandma with a little laptop? Everyone can be a hero, here! What is the Real Gain? An end to this nightmare. That is the only purpose for any of this. Ranking and points are all arbitrary numbers. They only help to promote friendly competition between folding teams. What About Team LIE? This team is open to anyone to join. We rose to the top 1% in ranking in just under 3 weeks. We began as a few hackers from our group, but now include team members from around the world and from every walk of life. Here are some interesting pages showing our fight:
